 Thomas Dunne, 1895-1916
When Thomas Dunne was born on 12 April 1895 in Offaly, Ireland, his father (Denis) was 53 and his mother (Anne) was 40. He had two brothers and four sisters. He died on 29 September 1916 in Courcelette, Picardie, France at the age of 21, and was buried in Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.
His mother died in 1909 at the age of 54 when Thomas was only 13. By the age of 19, he had moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He enlisted in the military on 20 November 1914. He was in the 24th Battalion, Victoria Rifles, CEF #65294. Thomas' father died in June 1916, at the age of 74, in Mountmellick, Ireland.
Thomas' body was never recovered, and he is memorialized at the Vimy Memorial in France. RIP
