Default Bernard/Charles Winder, k.i.a. 2.5.1885, Saskatchewan

I came across this plaque in Holy Trinity, the parish church of Sutton Coldfield, which was in the county of Warwickshire in 1885, now in the administrative county of West Midlands.

In Memory of
BERNARD WINDER
Aged 22 Years,
Who was killed near Battleford N.W.T.
MAY 2nd 1885
Whilst fighting against the Indians during the Rebellion in
British North America.

He would seem to be named as Charles Winder on this memorial at Battleford, Saskatchewan. http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/rememb.../details/4486/

Thanks very much, Temujin. It may have been the case that, while he was living in England, he was known as Bernard by his family; upon going out to Canada he preferred to be called Charles.

Very interesting reading, I wasn't aware of this incident before.
