Default Won or Awarded?

I used to say "won" until I read you shouldn't on another forum. https://www.awm.gov.au/blog/2014/09/...ictoria-cross/

I have always used the term Awarded as the individual is having an honour bestoed upon them. Won, to me implies a prize, as in a competition.
