Default Dr. Anson Donaldson, killed in German West Africa 1906

I've come across a Welsh newspaper report of a Canadian Boer War and Somaliland veteran being killed in German West Africa, an area which is now the countries of Cameroon and Togo. He's listed in the Anglo-Boer War Forum as Anson Scott Donaldson, a surgeon, who served in one of the approximately 125 different Town Guard and District Mounted Troop units.

Although he wasn't a war casualty, he did see service in the Boer War. Is there any more available information about him?

Great excitement has been caused throughout Canada by the news of the murder of Dr. Donaldson by Germans in German West Africa. Dr. Donaldson was only 33 years of age, and was well-known throughout the Dominion. He was a son of Mr. Vernon Donaldson, of Brockville, and was a graduate of McGill University. The doctor was the first Canadian to volunteer for service in the Boer war, and he subsequently took service with the British troops in Somaliland. His sister, Mrs. Simpson, lives at Pittsburg, Pa.
Another account states that Dr. Anson Donaldson was walking in one of the streets, when a German soldier fired at him. The doctor dropped to the ground, and several other soldiers then fired, practically riddling his body. It is alleged that his remains were secretly disposed of.
