Thanks, it's the particular period between Xmas 1943 & New Year 1944 I need to know where he was as my wife was conceived then. She was born September 1944 so it's interesting that he appears to have taken leave at that time. His record shows he did
"43 months service, 37 months in the UK chiefly employed as head waiter in the officer's mess & i/c of batmen"

I see at (from your info above) and from his records that he was assigned to No 3 Canadian Infantry Reinforcement Unit but this may have been AFTER the dates above.

I have found a record that indicates that in August of 1943 this unit was located at Aldershot, and two of the training companies utilized Salamanca and Badajoz Barracks.

I’m still looking

So, again looking at the records......trying to determine where he was during that period.....I note that on the 24 Apr 1943 he was assigned to HQ’s CRU.

So I would assume that this was his assigned in the Officer’s Mess of this unit.

I’ll try to find out where this HQ’s (and the Officer’s Mess) was during that time

Think it needs to be kept in mind that it was relatively easy to get around the entire UK on a leave. Guys stationed in Sussex could spend their leave with family in Scotland.

It's not clear from that record, but probably a 9 day leave. He could have got almost anywhere.

It looks to me like “ceases”. Do you have an understanding of what “PE” is? That may help.

Only that it means permanent establishment. I did wonder if it said "Lewes" a town in Sussex.
