Default Special Volunteers?

Hi everyone...new to this page. I was going through some of my grandfathers things and found a handwritten page inside a book listing his deployments in WWII. One entry I'm curious about and could use some assistance with is as follows:
"1944 Special Volunteers - Beach demolitions "red" - Normandy Inv."

Any assistance in meaning would be appreciated, specifically "red" and "special volunteers".
thanks!
Doug

Hi Doug,
I'm sure there are others on the forum who can shed some light on your quires.
You may have seen this map, but if not, it's at least a point of reference.
Cheers

Default Demolitions Red

Red might refer to Nan Red or Mike Red. A soldier would not need to know if it were Mike or Nan beach. Soldiers could practice and plan the landings without using the real place names for security reasons. Demolition of the beach defences was needed for landing craft and the cargo to get onto the beaches. There were layers of obstacles to sink the boats and stop vehicles from moving off the beach. All these obstacles needed to be removed while under fire. Not for the timid.
