Smile Willerval

Hi
I am trying to find out some info about Canadian soldiers in WW1
My grandfather service number 760730 was in the 7th Battalion and was wounded at Vimy on April 11
There is a picture of Canadian soldiers in a trench near Willerval.
I was told that the soldier sleeping was my grandfather.
I would like to find out if the 7th Battalion was at Willerval and if so what was the date
Here is a link to the photo- photo number 7

Hope someone can help
Wally

Your grandfather was Percy Llewelyn Flower correct??

Checked his records, and he was invalided to England (Gun shot wound) on 28 Apr 1917, and back in Canada the same year.

The photo indicates it was produce on the 1 Apr 1918........so if we have the correct photo date, this couldn't be him, as he was already back in Canada.

But I will see if the 7th Bn was at Willerval at that date, to double check

Checked the 7th Battalion war diaires for 1 Apr 1918, on that day they were at Dainville, France in billets. This is quite a distance from Willerval (which is near Vimy). Dainville is near Arras

Only other thing you could check is to try to confirm the date the photo was taken from the Imperial War Museum

Default Thanks

thanks for the info
My grandfather was in the 121 Battalion CEF and was taken on strength 7th Battalion on arrival in France
All his records are with the 121th
Some great info was found
On April 11 a shell exploded in front of him and shattered his ulna and the records even say a front tooth was knocked out from the dirt thrown up by the blast
It was amazing how close I came to never knowing my grandpa
He was the best role model I could have asked for
I always as a little boy wanted to know what he did in the war
All he ever said was the rats were unbelievable , the mud was unbelievable and he would not have missed it for the world
Amazing
